Reading Your Bill
Below are common terms used on your monthly electric bill from Kootenai Electric Cooperative.
- Service Availability Charge - The intent of the service availability charge is to cover a portion of the costs we incur to build and maintain the system that carries the electricity to your home or place of business. Even if no electricity is used, we still face these expenses in keeping the facilities in place to deliver energy. Those costs include substation and power line improvements, maintenance and repair, billing, accounting, the repayment of loans, and member service.
- Statement Date - The date our computer printed your bill. Charges and payments processed after that date will appear on your next bill.
- Usage - This is the amount of energy used during the current billing cycle.
- Kilowatt Hours - KEC measures the amount of electricity in watt hours. One kilowatt hour equals 1000 watt hours. The kilowatt hours on your bill equal the rate or speed of use (kilowatts) x the length of time electricity was used.
- Average Daily Temperature - This is a total of each day's average temperature for the billing cycle divided by the number of days of service.
- Disconnect Pending – If this is on your bill you must contact KEC by the due date to avoid service disruption.
- Late Payment Fee – 1% of the past due amount
