About Cooperatives
Four out of every ten Americans depend on cooperatives for a variety of goods and services. Cooperatives provide electric as well as telephone and agricultural services, and have a significant impact on the economy and consumers they serve. In many ways Cooperatives are like any other business; however, there are some important aspects that make it unique and different. A cooperative business belongs to the people who use it — people who have organized to provide themselves with the goods and services they need just as Kootenai Electric Cooperative’s founders did in 1938. Bottom line, a cooperative operates for the benefit of its members. At Kootenai Electric, we are owned by those we serve and work to reflect that in everything we do. As a Touchstone Energy® Cooperative, Kootenai Electric Cooperative believes in the ethical values of integrity, accountability, innovation and commitment to the community.
